Industrial and Federal Relationships of Photovoltaic Testing Laboratory

  • PTL enjoys 15+ years of testing experience and industrial relationships with resultant know-how. ASU has an opportunity to leverage this unique knowledgebase of PTL for a competitive advantage.

  • PTL maintains a strong brand equity with all PV module manufacturers in the world

  • PTL has provided testing and R&D services to more than 200 manufacturers and organizations in the world.

  • PTL has tested more than 2500 modules and issued more than 250 performance certificates.

  • For the benefit of entire industry, PTL publishes its findings related to the test results (without disclosing manufacturers’ names) in all the major conferences held in the United States and Europe.

  • Since PTL is accredited by a reputed accreditation body, American Association for Laboratory Accreditation, PTL’s performance certificates are accepted by all the consumers through out the world.

  • PTL is the only accredited qualification/reliability test lab in the US. After European Commission’s laboratory, PTL was the second oldest PV test laboratory created in the entire world. Until recently, PTL was one of the only 3 labs in the world.

  • PTL, since its inception in 1992, maintains a strong relationship with the laboratories of Department of Energy (National Renewable Energy Laboratories and Sandia National Laboratories)

  • PTL maintains a long-standing working relationship with large manufacturers including BP Solar, Sharp, Kyocera, GE Energy, Shell Solar (now Solar World), Schott Solar and SunTech Power.

  • Sandia developed a PV array performance evaluation technique over 11 years. In order to provide a commercial testing service based on this technique, Sandia recently completed a technology transfer to the PTL. Currently, PTL positions itself to offer this unique testing service to the industry.

  • PTL maintains long-standing relationships with APS, SRP and Arizona Department of Commerce.

  • Solar ABCs: This organization was recently created by the federal government. Solar ABCs is the federal repository for the standards and codes issues, questions and gap-analysis based study areas. ASU/PTL is a steering committee member (one of the thirteen organizations) and is responsible for the gap-analysis based product study areas. This means a consistent and extended federal funding for ASU/PTL.
