| Photovoltaic Testing Laboratory
The Photovoltaic Testing Laboratory (PTL) is an accredited (per ISO 17025 by American Association for Laboratory Accreditation), self-supporting laboratory since its inception in 1992. As a part of workforce development, PTL staff is also involved in teaching and applied R&D activities (offering courses related to photovoltaics and fuel cells, and supervising MS students). As a part of service/outreach activities, PTL staff actively participates in national and international standards development and solar initiative meetings of Arizona Department of Commerce, City of Phoenix, Arizona Technology Council, Arizona Corporation Commission, Arizona homebuilders, etc.
ASU’s clients/partners span the globe, from the USA, Canada and Mexico to countries in Europe, South America, Asia and, of course, Australia. The modules they submit for qualification testing encompass all technologies both in marketplace and under development
PTL performs photovoltaic module qualification testing and related activities. It is one of three such unique facilities in the world testing modules from manufacturers around the world. Its staff is experienced in the analysis and full testing sequence of commercial Si solar cell technologies required by IEC 61215, IEC 61626, IEEE 1262, and UL 1703
